IIRSM ANNUAL LUNCH

Attened the annual lunch at the House of Lords.
Interesting to hear the speech from the Chair of yhe HSE.
The main seeker from a Judge gave us food for thought on how the law is interpreted on Health and Safety, Consumer an Common Duties. The main point was the inconsistency on judgements by fellow colleagues and that parliament made need to re look at the statutory instruments.

The first anniversary of the Healthy Workplaces Manage Stress campaign is on 7 April and fast approaching. With it there are many interesting campaign related events and activities being organised across Europe this spring to carry on raising awareness about psychosocial risks and work-related stress. In addition to reflecting on the hard work done so far, this is the perfect time to point out some of the upcoming highlights and remind readers that its not too late to get involved.

BIFM and CIPD launch The Workplace Conversation

BIFM and the CIPD, the professional body for HR and people development, have today launched The Workplace Conversation – a unique collaborative project exploring the evolution of the working environment and what the future of the workplace looks like.
The project will aim to identify and define the challenges, ideas and opportunities on how work is enabled, both now and in the future, and will explore topics such as the emergence of new technologies, economic forces and flexible working alternatives, and their impact on business performance and the way people work.

The initiative will comprise of a 3-month online conversation which will draw insights, ideas and practical solutions from individuals across a range of countries.  Participants will be set specific tasks throughout the duration; the outcome of which will lead to a user-submitted idea, selected by the community, being voted as the best idea to ‘create better workplaces in the future’.

Changes to ISO18001 to ISO 45001

OHSAS 18001 changing to ISO 45001, Development of the International Occupational Health and Safety Management System Standard

BS OHSAS 18001 is due to be replaced by a new international standard, ISO 45001 in late 2016. An ISO project committee comprised of 83 delegates representing 27 member bodies (including the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has been formed to produce the new standard which met for the first time in October 2013 and has produced the first working draft of ISO 45001. The projected timeline for development and introduction of the new standard is as follows:

The new ISO Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management system standard and supporting documentation will not be allocated the ISO 18000 series as that number had previously been allocated to a series of ‘radio frequency for item management’ standards.

The proposed differences between the existing OHSAS 18001 and new ISO 45001 standards, together with the rationale for the changes.
